Hey :)
I have seen a few people do blogs and videos on this topic and I thought I would add my two cents too. I hope no one minds me doing this post :) As we always see what people do like and what they do recommend but what about those products that sit unloved in a box somewhere because they aren’t what we expected them to be!
I just want to say, just because something does or doesn’t work for me it doesn’t mean that will be the case for anyone else!
1) Gosh Darling Lipstick
(Picture taken from Google images)
I really wanted this lipstick so when my Mr was treating me to some new stuffs I picked this up. I really wanted to love it because there had been so much hype surrounding it. Now I do think it has a nice moisturising formula but it doesn’t apply nicely on me and the colour really doesn’t look good on me. Makes me look really washed out and it has a horrible taste. Since I got it I haven’t actually worn it out I always take it back off.
2) Collection 2000 Hot Looks Nail Polishes
(Picture taken from Google images)
I have 3 of these polishes, I have “Button Moon”, “Wham” and “Big Hair”. I really like “Big Hair” as it applies nicely and only takes 2 coats to get opacity and dries fairly quickly. However I really dislike “Button Moon” and “Wham” they apply streaky and take about 4 coats to get it opaque enough to look decent. I honestly can’t be bothered to sit and wait for 4 coats of nail polish to dry. And even then you can see some streaks in certain lights. I know some people love them but I just cant get on with them.
3) Barry M Nail Polishes in “Shocking Pink” & “Navy”
(Pictures taken from Barry M website)
Again I really wanted to like these as I love everything else I have tried from this brand plus I know a lot of other people love these polishes. I can’t get on with these either, the formula on these 2 is thick, gloopy and hard to control. They have been that way since I brought them. They may have changed the formula since then and I can’t speak for any other colours as quite honestly these two put me off trying any others.
4) Rimmel Gentle Eye Makeup Remover
(Picture taken from Google images)
I had seen this mentioned a few times on blogs/youtube and so decided to give it a go. As many people had said it doesn’t sting your eyes and gets makeup off really well. I used this on a cotton round and let it “break down” my eye makeup before gently swiping away. It bloody stings! I may have ultra sensitive eyes but this is meant to be a gentle eye makeup remover. Also it doesn’t remove my eyeliner and mascara all that well and I don’t wear waterproof mascara. I was really disappointed with this, so now I just stick to Makeup/Baby wipes.
5) Lush
(Picture taken from Google images)
Don’t get me wrong I like some Lush products that I have tried. But for a start I think a lot of their products are over priced, that might just be me though. Secondly there are other handmade soap companies that do similar products for less and some even do nicer products. I remember getting a gift box before and I hated every product in it, I can’t remember which ones though sorry. Recently I tried Snow Fairy Shower Gel and Honey I Washed The Kids Soap. I loved the scents of both products and I really like the company values etc. Snow Fairy has glitter in it, but that just sinks to the bottom of the bottle and you never actually get it on your skin, but it does lather nicely and scents lasts for a little bit on the skin. Honey I Washed The Kids, smells delicious but it leaves my skin feeling slightly “draggy”, how can I put this. Say you run your hands over your skin they “drag” quite a bit and this isn’t a feeling I like my skin to have. But again the scent does linger for a little while. I feel that both of these products are just “okay” nothing too special and I highly doubt I will repurchase the soap. I also think Honey I Washed The Kids was responsibly for the rash that I came out in on my neck and face for over 2 weeks :(
I hope you enjoyed reading this and thank you if you made it to the end ;)
Great post my love, I however think Gosh darling is okay- its not AMAZING! but Im happy with it.
ReplyDeleteI do agree with Lush though, I love the place & am playing into their hands because I buy so much of it, but its just bubble bath! like £2-3 for what 3/4 baths :/
and as for barry m shocking pink-Im so sad :( shocking pink is my favrouistest ever colour
xxx
Hiya :)
ReplyDeleteI have to agree with you on most of those! I saw GOSH Darling in store and it looked like concealer. I can't imagine it looking good on anyone lol.
I tried Collection 2000's Button Moon and had the same problem. It put me off trying any of the others.
I've got Barry M's Navy and I think it's ok. Although I haven't used it in absolutely ages.
I think Lush is so overrated. I don't like their products. I only like the smell of their stores haha. Give me Soap & Glory any day :D xox
i quite agreed with you. i found lush products are slightly overprice, but then, their shampoo bar really works on my bf's hair, so i have to keep pop in and buy the bar for him. sigh~
ReplyDeletek.
I'm with you on lush, the only thing I really like is yummy yummy yummy shower cream but even so I prefer the original source shower gels and they're so much cheaper!
ReplyDeleteI quite like gosh darling but wouldn't wear it alone. I like to put it on before a coloured lipstick. :)
xo
Ahhh great post! Gosh darling is really hit or miss with me; when I have fake tan on it looks quite nice but otherwise it makes me look so washed out!! xxx
ReplyDeleteIm heading that way about Lush- i did a blog about them the other day and i agree over priced for what you get...
ReplyDeleteI have to disagree with the rimmel eye makeup remover- i actually find that ok on me :)
Good Blog though hun! xx
Great post! Really interesting to read. I have a few of the hot looks polishes and i find the formula really changeable, some are love but some are terribly streaky.
ReplyDeleteI love Lush's products but i'm with you on the price.
@ Steph - Thank you! I guess it just depends on skin tone etc
ReplyDeleteAnd yeah I do really like some of their products but I refuse to pay
that much for a couple of things that will only last a few baths.
I really wanted to like the Barry M nail polish too, maybe its just my bottle :(
@ Kim - That's exactly what it looks like on me, and thats one of my
biggest beauty peeves. I'm glad I'm not the only one who doesn't get on with
Button Moon. The Navy one isn't as bad as shocking pink but I still can't bring myself to use it,
Yes! I am really getting into Soap & Glory and their products last longer than lush's so work out cheaper.
@ Kyanvi - They do have a few OK products but the price comepletely puts me off.
@ Jennie - Yeah, I think there are lots of products out there that are better for less!
Ah I might try using Darling for that, saves it just sitting there being unloved haha.
@ Becca - Thank you! Yeah I really agree, its just one of those lipsticks that really depends on your skin tone.
Not as universal as people make out haha
@ ShoppingAddict - Oooh I will have a mooch at your blog :)
Maybe I just have super sensitive eyes then :( Its a shame because I really wanted to like it.
@ Lillian - Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it. Yeah I think that's what it is but those two really put me off
buying any more. But Big Hair is lovely formula. Seems a lot of people are a fan of lush but not their prices!
Thank you all for your comments! I love reading each and every one of them
