Getting a new job

Today marks 22 days since I started my new job.

I had been at my previous job for 18 months and if we are being honest I really did not like it. I had been looking for a new job for some months and I had applied for what felt like thousands of jobs, in reality it was more likes tens of jobs.

When you are in a job that you are not happy in it is very easy to become frustrated, disheartened and down. People may say well its only a job don't let it fuss you but when you spend 8+ hours of your day there its easier said than done to not let it get you down. When it starts effecting how you are at home and other people start noticing how miserable you are then you really do have to do something about it.
I am one of those people who usually moan about something but aren't willing to do anything to change their situation. Not this time, I really had, had enough.

I went through an agency called Pertemps recruitment and they sent my CV to employers who they felt would benefit from having me on their team. I had an interview through them but the employer decided later that he was not going to be employing anyone new for a while. The job I have at the moment is temporary with the view to becoming permanent but that's fine with me.

I never had much faith in agencies before joining Pertemps as I had heard some bad stories and thought they were useless and had no place in recruitment these days. But when I was at my wits end and had nothing to lose I gave them a chance, I'm glad I did now.

I guess there is no advice to give in this post except that sometimes trying something new or taking a chance is the best thing you can do even if you are unsure of it at the time. I resigned at my previous job on a Friday and started my new job on the Monday, that terrified me! I had never even been into the building where I now work before that Monday and I was scared I had made the wrong decision. But it got me out of my old job where I was unhappy and gave me the kick up the backside that I so desperately needed.

I have also learnt that being 75% of myself at an interview really was the best way to be, I say 75% because I also needed to big myself up a little to my potential employer and make myself seem like an unmissable opportunity to him, which is not how I usually am, among a few other things.

If you are stuck in a job that you hate then please do something about it and don't give up hope. You don't need to be there for the rest of your life and you can do something about it. Stay positive although its tough sometimes it really does help. Remember you will always be your own worst critic so give yourself a break and some credit for what you are really capable of!
